SeapixOnlineDisplaying 2048 of 11113 JDS KASHIMA (TV3508), a Japan Defence Force training ship arrives in Auckland followed by the destroter JDS ASAGIRI (DD151). Along with the destroyer JDS SETOYUKI (DD131) these three ships are part of the Japanese Training Fleet currently touring global ports for training and to strengthen ties between countries. ASAGIRI, SETOYUKI and KASHIMA arrived at Auckland soon after sunrise, KASHIMA and ASAGIRI entering port shortly before 9am to a gun salute from the RNZN's Devonport naval base gun battery. Both berthed at the Wynyard Wharf petrochemical terminal for bunkering while SETOYUKI remained anchored in the Hauraki Gulf. She will enter port for bunkering tomorrow around mid-morning. It was 69 years ago today that on 2 September 1945, WWII completely ended with the Japanese signing the Instrument of Surrender aboard USS Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay.
