SeapixOnlineDisplaying 3 of 4 PLAN HONGZEHU (AOR881) a Fuqing-class tanker, berthing in Auckland, New Zealand. She is one of three ships of the China's Peoples Liberation Army Navy which arrived in Auckland fresh from the Royal Australian Navy anniversary celebration in Sydney. Berthing on the opposite side of Princes Wharf were QINGDAO (DDG113) a type 052 Luhu-class guided missile destroyer, LINYI (FFG547) a type 054A frigate, the three vessels and their crews spending four days alongside in "The City of Sails" after having visited ports in the US and Australia as part of a program aimed at strengthening military ties between countries. During the tour, they will take part in sea security exercises with vessels from other ASEAN nations and while in US waters will participate in a sea rescue drill with US ships.
Before the vessels arrived in Auckland, John Key, NZ Prime Minister, confirmed for the first ever time that the government of a country whose vessels are making a port call to NZ, has guaranteed the vessels concerned conform with New Zealand's 29-year-old anti-nuclear laws which bans visits by all nuclear-armed or nuclear powered ships.
