SeapixOnlineDisplaying 3 of 12 HMNZS OTAGO (P148) the first of two new OPV's (offshore patrol vessels) ordered by the Royal New Zealand Navy as part of the NZ$500 million, seven-ship Project Protector programme, arrives in Auckland nearly two years late from her builders BAE Systems of Williamstown, Victoria, Australia. She is seen leading HMNZS Taupo and HMNZS Hawea, two of the RNZN's new inshore patrol vessels, toward the Devonport Naval Base, Auckland.
HMNZS Otago's delivery voyage last month had to be abandoned after the ship developed faults in both engines. She limped back to port in Melbourne where repairs were effected.
