SeapixOnline- Scrapped vessels - 1 of 1 NEDLLOYD NORMANDIE (1992/53409grt/IMO 9000601. Renamed CMA CGM NORMANDIE, MSC NAPOLI) inbound at Southampton, England. Caught in horrendous storms on 18 January 2007 as MSC NAPOLI was holed and abandoned while in the English Channel en-route to Portugal. Crew members were airlifted from liferafts by air-sea rescue helicopters from RNAS Culdrose, Cornwall. She was towed by Coastguard vessel ANGLIAN PRINCESS (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-14943554) into Lyme Bay off the UK's south coast where her cargo was removed during a lengthy salvage operation. The ship was later cut up in-situ and removed from the World Heritage-rated coastline.
