SeapixOnlineDisplaying 1 of 3 ESPERANZA (1984/2076grt/IMO 8404599, ex-ECO FIGHTER, ECHO FIGHTER, VIKHR-4) originally a Russian firefighting vessel built in Gdansk, Poland, she is now the largest vessel in the Greenpeace fleet and is seen here emerging out of the rains of a typical Kiwi summer's day, for the first time in Auckland, New Zealand. Esperanza was refitted and renamed in Cape Town in 2002 and was blessed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. She will spend two weeks in NZ before heading to the Antarctic to continue the fight against Japanese whaling fleet activities in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
