SeapixOnlineDisplaying 1203 of 11052 HMAS Darwin (FFG04) one of the Royal Australian Navy's Adelaide-class guided missile frigates arrives in Auckland to participate in Operation Neptune. While in Auckland she was expected to take part in the RNZN's International Naval Review, celebrating the Royal New Zealand Navy's 75th anniversary. At the last minute, due to the massive 14 Nov earthquake in Kaikoura, she was deployed away from the celebrations to join an international disaster relief task force, joining vessels from the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore.
HMAS Darwin, at 4100 tons displacement and with a top speed of 29kts, was built by Todd Pacific Shipyards of Seattle. She was laid down on 26 March 1981 and commissioned on 21 July 1982.
